August 7th marked the beginning of the Littlle William Theater Festival of New Music. What is the Little William Theater Festival of New Music you might ask? The festival, which is curated by my good friend Chris Kallmyer, consists of 4 separate duo ensembles (violins, accordions, clarinets, and tuba) performing new works by nearly 100 composers (each of whom wrote for all 4 duos) inside the coat closet at the Hammer Museum at UCLA. All the pieces will stand alone as their own individual concert and were written to be under two minutes in length and to be performed for an audience of two. Every Saturday between now and the end of November, one of these ensembles will be playing in the coatroom from 1-4pm.
Violinist Andrew McIntosh and myself happen to be one of these four duos and we were honored to start the festival off with performances of new works by Peter Ablinger, Nick Didkovsky, Marc Sabat, John P. Hastings, Chris Porter, and more. We will play three more times over the next few months (see my upcoming events list for dates). More information about the festival can be found here.
I will post more about this unique experience as the festival progresses.
